Privacy policy
Last updated: October 2026
This privacy policy applies to the website tietheknot.ch and to the wedding websites we operate under *.tietheknot.ch. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Controller
Surenthan RasaratnamCanton of Zurich, Switzerland
Email: info@tietheknot.ch
For guest data on a wedding website, the couple concerned is the controller (see section 6).
Part A: The website tietheknot.ch
2. Server log files
For every request, the web server records the IP address, date and time, the requested address, the status code, the referring page and the browser identifier. We need this information to run the website and detect attacks (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log files are deleted after 14 days.
3. Request form
When you write to us through the form, we process your names, your email address and the optional details (wedding date, number of guests, languages, message) to answer your request and send you a quote (pre-contractual steps, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- The details are not stored in a database. They are sent as an email to our mailbox, and you receive a confirmation at the address you entered.
- If no contract follows, we delete the emails no later than 12 months after the last contact.
- If a contract follows, we keep the correspondence for as long as accounting and retention duties require.
4. No cookies, no tracking
This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising services and loads no content from third-party servers. The fonts are served from our own server as well.
Part B: The wedding websites
5. Which data is processed
- Login data of guests and the couple: name, username, optionally email address, password (stored only as a cryptographic hash).
- RSVPs with number of people and details such as dietary needs.
- Content guests upload themselves: photos, videos, voice messages, guestbook entries, comments.
- A technically necessary login token in the browser so you stay signed in. It is not used for tracking.
6. Roles
The couple decides whom to invite and which features the website has. The couple is therefore the controller for their guests’ data. We process this data on the couple’s behalf and according to their instructions, based on a data processing agreement (annex to the terms). Guests can contact the couple or us directly; we forward requests to the couple.
7. Retention
A wedding website stays online for up to 12 months after the wedding date. Before that, the couple can receive an export of the content on request. Afterwards we delete all data of the website, and backup copies no later than 30 days later.
Part C: For both parts
8. Recipients and location
Servers and the mailbox are operated by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestrasse 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, as our processor. The data is stored in data centres in Germany. Under Annex 1 of the Swiss Data Protection Ordinance, Germany provides an adequate level of data protection. We do not pass data to other third parties unless the law requires it.
9. Security
All connections are encrypted with TLS. We store passwords only as hashes. The data of different weddings is kept separate in the database, and only the operator has administrative access.
10. Your rights
You can request access to your data, have it corrected or deleted, object to or restrict its processing, and receive your data in a common format. Write to info@tietheknot.ch. You also have the right to complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, Feldeggweg 1, 3003 Bern) or to the data protection authority of your country in the EU.
11. Changes
We update this policy when the website or the law changes. The version published here applies.
This English version is provided for convenience. In case of doubt, the German version applies.
